Dr. T.V. Geetha was born on 18.05.1960 in Chennai District of Tamil Nadu, India. She is currently a Senior Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Anna University Chennai.
She is currently the Director, Academic Courses looking after academic matters of all the 540 colleges under Anna University. At present she is also working as Dean, College of Engineering, Anna University, Guindy Campus.
She completed her B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy in the year 1982 and her M.E. in Computer Science and Engineering from the same institution in the year 1986.
She completed her Ph.D in Natural Language Processing from Anna University in the year 1992.
She has over 262 papers in national and international journals and conferences. 20 Research scholars have completed Ph.D. and 10 scholars are undergoing Ph.D.
under her guidance in areas such as Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, Natural Language Processing including Tamil, Semantic and Personalized Search Engines, AI based on Indian Philosophy,
Text Mining, E-Learning, Carnatic Music Processing, Semantic Computing and Social Network Mining. She also has interests in general areas such as Research methodologies for Computer Science and Engineering and innovative methods of thinking,
and different types and styles of teaching and learning.
She has been awarded the Young Scientist award from the Government of Tamilnadu in the year 2000, a Special Mention award from the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu in the year 2002, Honourable Mention Award for paper at CSI 1988 (paper on NLP) and the Women of Excellence award from the Rotract club in the year 2003.
She was the coordinator of a project from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Government of India to produce “Specialized manpower in the area of Computational Linguistics and Knowledge Engineering” through which a specialized ME course in the area for which the curriculum and syllabi was specially designed by her team.
In addition her team is one of the collaborators of a funded project Titled “Cross Lingual Information Access across Indian Languages” from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Government of funding India.
She and her team have also obtained a UGC project e-pathsala for creating online content for PG courses in Computer Science with a funding of Rs.1.12 crores.
She undertakes consultancy projects for industry in the area of NLP, Semantics and Machine Learning.
She has delivered state of the art lectures in many educational institutions and professional societies. She has conducted short term courses for the teachers of engineering colleges sponsored by AICTE. She has visited USA, UK, Malaysia, Mauritius and Dubai in connection with academic and research activities.
She is Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education, Computer Society of India and other Professional Societies. She has also served as the treasurer of the Computer Society of Anna University.
She is member of VC Convener Committee from Feb 2017 to till Date. And she is Member of National E-governance Working Group, Progress Review Steering Group of Ministry of Information and Communication Engineering, Govt. of India, NAAC Committee, UPSC Selection Committee, NBA Sectorial Committee (2005),
UGC Project Selection Committee, NBA Expert Committee, AICTE Inspection Committee, Technical Evaluation Committee, Tamil Virtual University, Research Board and SRM University. And member of academic and administrative bodies such as Academic Council and Board of Studies etc., of many educational institutions in India.
She has also served as an Examiner for Ph.Ds. of many universities in India.
She also has interests in general areas such as Research methodologies for Computer Science and Engineering including innovative methods of thinking, different types and styles of teaching and learning, design and development of e-content for engineering courses and issues in the effective use of learning management systems with special emphasis on activity based learning.
She is actively involved in preparing video and e-content for fundamental courses.
With the wide range of academic, research and administrative experience, her services were fully utilized by the Authorities of Anna University, Chennai and Government of Tamil Nadu for many important assignments.
